Will Lady Gaga Act Again? A Look at the Pop Star's Upcoming Projects
Pop icon Lady Gaga had made limited excursions into acting prior to her Oscar-nominated turn in 2018’s A Star Is Born. Up until then, she had made small appearances in Robert Rodriguez films like Sin City: A Dame to Kill For and Machete Kills, and had recurring roles in the American Horror Story seasons Hotel and Roanoke.
Since her celebrated turn as the waitress-turned-pop-megastar, Ally, in Bradley Cooper’s directorial debut, Gaga hasn’t appeared in another film or TV project. She returned to music in 2020 with the release of her fifth solo album, Chromatica, and on Jan. 20, performed the national anthem at the inauguration of President Joe Biden. Luckily for fans, however, her actor return is close at hand.
Lady Gaga has two film projects in the works
Gaga is currently attached to two film projects, both of which are high-profile in their own way. At least one is currently filming and could make it to theaters (if those are still a thing) in 2022. Both of which, weirdly, revolve around professional assassins.
The project currently filming is Bullet Train, a thriller led by Brad Pitt and featuring a huge cast of big names. Based on the novel Maria Beetle by Kōtarō Isaka, the film follows five assassins who cross paths while pursuing separate targets on the same Japanese bullet train. It is being directed by David Leitch, the action specialist who previously worked on Deadpool 2, Atomic Blonde, and John Wick.
Alongside Pitt and Gaga in the cast are Joey King, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Zazie Beetz, Brian Tyree Henry, Andrew Koji, Masi Oka, Karen Fukuhara, Hiroyuki Sanada, Michael Shannon, Logan Lerman, and rapper Bad Bunny. That’s one packed train.
Collider reported Gaga’s involvement with the film back in November. Details about the film are being kept under wraps for now, but those close to the production told Collider that the singer would have a smaller supporting role and would not play one of the assassins.
Her other project involves a grisly true story
Gaga is also set for a more prominent role in director Ridley Scott’s biopic, Gucci. She will play Patrizia Reggiani, as Deadline reported, the ex-wife of one-time head of the Gucci fashion company, Maurizio Gucci, who will be played by Adam Driver. Reggiani hired a hitman who successfully assassinated Gucci outside his office in 1995. She was later convicted in 1998 and sentenced to serve 29 years in prison. However, she was released in 2016 after her sentence was shortened for good behavior.
According to Gucci‘s IMDB page, the film is also rumored to star Jared Leto, Al Pacino, Jeremy Irons, and Jack Huston.
