As of July 19, restrictions in England will ease and face masks will no longer be a legal requirement. However, Sadiq Khan has confirmed face masks must still be worn on public transport in London. The Mayor of London said he was not prepared to put people using the tube and buses at risk by relaxing the rules of face masks. However, during an appearance on Wednesday’s Good Morning Britain, ITV host Susanna Reid grilled the Mayor of London over how TfL will enforce it, as she pointed out some people aren’t wearing face coverings on the Underground now.
“You can’t enforce this,” the host raged. “The point is it is the law now.”
Reid went on to recall her own experience of being on the tube as she claimed half the carriage she was on during one journey weren’t wearing a face mask.
“I don’t know how you’re going to enforce it when it’s not being enforced,” she continued.
“It is an imperfect solution,” Mr Khan replied as he added: “I’m confident is Londoners will do the right thing.”
