9/11 victim identified nearly 18 years after attacks
The remains of another victim of the 9/11 attacks has been identified, the city’s Medical Examiner’s Office said on Thursday.
The woman is the 1,644th person identified among the 2,753 reported missing in the terror attacks, officials said. She was identified through DNA testing of remains recovered in 2002.
Her name is being withheld at the request of her family.
She is the second victim to be identified this year.
Some 1,109 victims — or about 40 percent of those who died — remain unidentified.
The ME’s office has been using cutting-edge technology to draw blood from bone fragments left behind that day in hopes of getting a DNA match.
