Bear falls onto deputy’s car, causing crash that sparks wildfire
He “bearly” made it out alive!
A California sheriff’s deputy miraculously survived a fiery wreck after a bear suddenly fell from an embankment onto his patrol car, causing it to roll over — and spark a wildfire that engulfed the vehicle, according to a report.
The deputy with the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office was responding to a report of an overdose in the area of Orleans around 11 p.m. over the weekend when the bear came crashing down onto his hood while he was driving north on Highway 96, ABC affiliate KRCR-TV reported, citing police.
The patrol car slammed into an embankment, flipped over and landed on its side during the Saturday incident, according to the news outlet.
The vehicle erupted in flames, igniting a vegetation fire that burned about a half-acre.
According to the report, the deputy managed to escape the burning car. He was not seriously injured.
Fire crews battled the fire until Sunday morning.
The condition of the bear was not immediately clear.
