California postal worker finds missing autistic teen girl and missing 3-year-old
Nothing goes missing when this postal worker’s on duty!
A California postwoman has received awards for heroism for finding two missing girls in as many weeks, according to a report.
Vista Post Office employee Chyanne Thomas first recognized Abbey Motzer, a shoeless 15-year-old girl with autism who had gone missing in San Diego in mid-April with at least 80 joining a search party.
Then, at the end of the same month, she spotted a 3-year-old who was alone and afraid — calling 911 and staying with the child, who did not speak English, until her panicked mom arrived, she said.
“Us mail carriers — we notice everything,” Thomas told Fox 5 San Diego. “We do not miss a thing.”
Thomas — who has only worked at the post office for a year — told Fox 5 that she was “still trying to understand” how she ended up finding two kids in such a short span.
Thomas admitted that her bosses teased her that she “planned” the rescues to get awards.
“They said, ‘You’re a hero, Chyanne,’” she told the station.
But she shrugged off the title.
“I’m not a hero. I was just at the right place,” she said. “However, if there was another time, another kid goes missing, I wouldn’t mind springing into action and helping out just like I did.”
