A 10-year-old boy has died at an upper north shore school after he became trapped under an elevator.

St Lucy’s School for Student’s with Disabilities in Wahroonga, a special primary school and high school that caters for children with mild to severe intellectual disability, autism and sensory impairments, went into lockdown around 2pm after staff discovered the trapped child.

Emergency services and police tried to remove the child. However, he died at the scene.

A NSW Police spokesperson said: “Police have established a crime scene and a recovery operation is continuing.

“A report will be prepared for the information of the coroner.”
