Dad 'killed wife and four kids then left bodies to rot in back of van for weeks'
A father killed his wife and her four children before leaving their bodies to decompose in the back of his van for weeks.
Michael Wayne Jones, 38, was only arrested after getting into a traffic accident on Monday – and admitting to cops that wife Casei Jones’ corpse was in the back of the vehicle he was driving.
Jones is then said to have led Marion County Sheriff’s deputies to the bodies of Cameron Bowers, 10, Preston Bowers, 5, Mercalli Jones, 2, and one year-old Aiyana Jones.
He is believed to be the father of the two youngest victims.
Marion County Sheriff’s Office say they are working to confirm the youngsters’ identities.
A Marion County Sheriff’s Office spokesman said: ‘Detectives believe he stored the bodies at his home and in his van for several weeks before transporting them to Brantley County, Georgia.’
Marion County Sheriff Billy Woods added: ‘As a father, as a parent, it breaks my heart. As a sheriff, it angers me.
Casei was reported missing by worried family members on Saturday after they realized they had not seen the mother or her children for six weeks. A sheriff’s deputy was dispatched to Casei’s house to perform a welfare check, and immediately noticed a ‘foul odor of decomposition’ coming from the property.
Her remains were found early Monday, with law enforcement officials saying they’d recovered the remains of Casei’s children hours later.
The family are believed to have been killed at their home in Ocala, Florida, although it is still unclear how they were killed – or why.
Michael Jones has so far been charged with one county of second-degree homicide in relation to Casei’s death.
He is likely to face further, upgraded charges, in relation to the killings of the five children, and is being held without bond ahead of his first court appearance.
