Doctor's grief as she stands on surgery steps after losing mum to coronavirus
Tragic photos capture the moment a New York doctor was overcome with grief while paying tribute to her mum who died aged 85 from coronavirus.
Dr Emancia Neil lost her mother Minnette Parks last week and this Thursday stepped out from her medical practice to be photographed with a portrait of her.
The elegant picture of Minnette in her younger years had been signed by friends and neighbours for her 80th birthday, according to the Daily Mail.
Dr Neil runs a practice across the street from the Bronx Lebanon Hospital Center, one of many to be overwhelmed by the huge case load the virus has created in the city.
The state of New York alone now has more coronavirus cases than any entire country outside the US after jumping by 10,000 on Thursday to 159,937.
Spain and Italy have 153,000 and 143,000 cases and death tolls of 15,500 and 18,000 respectively.

New York’s death toll is comparatively low at 7,000 but its outbreak took off later than Europe’s, threatening doctors with many more battles to save vulnerable patients.
The state is believed to have hit its peak, with the number of people admitted to hospitals falling for a second consecutive day on Wednesday.
But the number of deaths hit 799, a record high for the third day in a row, suggesting waves of people who caught the virus in recent weeks could pass away in the coming weeks.
Governor Andrew Cuomo called the virus a ‘silent explosion that ripples through society with the same randomness, the same evil that we saw on 9/11’.
