Firefighters saved a baby pigeon from a charred tree after being called to a shed explosion which ‘shook’ neighbouring houses.

Dramatic photos of the scene show how the garden area around the shed was gutted by the blaze.
The flames had also spread to a blackened tree which a baby pigeon had to be rescued from.
One photo shows a firefighter from Buckfastleigh fire station, Devon, cradling the small, terrified bird.
The cause of the blaze remains unknown, but is being considered accidental.

Local homes were ‘shaken’ by large explosions from the shed during the blaze – which firefighters blamed on a number of gas cylinders inside the shed.
Writing on social media, a spokesperson for Buckfastleigh fire station said: ‘Yesterday at 17:31 we were called to a large garden structure fire which was well alight in Totnes,
‘On arrival crews shipped a hydrant to provide water to the Paignton appliance which was already in attendance.
The spokesperson added: ‘Crews used a 51mm jet and a hose reel jet to extinguish the the fire and cool two patio gas cylinders within.
‘We were also able save a baby pigeon as the trees overhanging became involved in fire.’

Fire crews were then decontaminated by colleagues from Newton Abbot Fire Station using the environment protection unit before returning home at approximately 9pm
Kingsbridge hill, in Totnes, was closed for a number of hours due to large amounts of white asbestos that had broken up in the heat and spread onto the road which the fires service said needed to be safely dealt with.
Fire crews were then decontaminated by colleagues from Newton Abbot Fire Station using the environment protection unit before returning home at approximately 9pm.
People on social media applauded the firefighters for their rescue of the tiny animal.
One person wrote: ‘Thanks for saving the baby pigeon [kissing emoji].’
While another said: ‘Great work, hope the pigeon found it’s mother [thumbs up].’
