Girl, 4, raped in ditch by monster who then carried her back home to her family covered in blood

A MAN in China has been sentenced to death after abducting and raping his neighbour's four-year-old granddaughter.

The 54-year-old, named only as Liu, confessed to assaulting the girl in a ditch before carrying her back to her family covered in blood.

Authorities are calling the girl 'Yan Yan' to protect her identity.

She was reported missing on the evening of August 29 and her family told police Liu had come to the home shortly before she vanished to ask for a drink.

The following morning, he returned to the home with Yan Yan, who was covered in bruises and had blood on her trousers.

Speaking to local media, Yan Yan's grandmother said: "He brought my child back in the morning around 6am.

"I thought to myself, 'This is bad, he had harmed my child'."

Liu, who has previously served jail terms for murder and rape, was taken into custody by police later the same day.

Yan Yan was taken to hospital, where she was found to be suffering from severe infections and admitted to an intensive care unit.

The girl remains in hospital fighting for her life.

Speaking to reports on Tuesday, her father said: "[She] is still critically ill.

"All of her organs have been infected and damaged. She is also suffering from kidney failure."

According to court documents, Liu confessed to detectives that he had abducted the girl and assaulted her in a draining ditch at a construction site near the family's home.

Following a trial at the Intermediate People's Court of Harbin in northeast China, Liu was sentenced to death for the rape.

He was also deprived of his political rights for life.

The court heard he had "failed to rehabilitate" following his previous convictions.

It is not currently known whether Liu intends to appeal the sentence.
