Huge Pottstown house explosion in Pennsylvania leaves 2 dead and some residents trapped in destroyed homes
SEVERAL homes have reportedly been destroyed in a huge house explosion that left at least two people dead and three others trapped in the debris, officials say.
Shocking photos reveal the extent of the damage cause by the explosion, which sent debris flying in a neighborhood in in Pottstown, Pennsylvania on Thursday night.
The explosion was reported on North Washington Street right around 8.30pm.
The deaths and three people still trapped were confirmed to NBC10 by Todd Stieritz, the Public Affairs Coordinator with the Montgomery County Department of Public Safety.
Officials have not yet confirmed the number of homes that sustained damage, nor have they confirmed the number of injured.
Multiple people have been brought to area hospitals, according to reports.
Photos show at least one home that has been completely leveled with debris lining the streets. Other photos from the scene show cops roping off areas around downed poles and wires.
Neighbors in the area report hearing a loud bang, according to a local NBC affiliate.
Reports indicate that some residents on the street and in the area are being treated for shock following the explosion.
Authorities continue to investigate.
Pottstown is located in Montgomery County, about 40 miles northwest of Philadelphia.
