Jill Biden goes back to school to teach college as Joe's critics say 'at least one Biden will be doing their job'
JILL Biden went back to school this week, and while many celebrated the first lady's commitment to her career, others took the opportunity to throw jabs at President Joe Biden.
On Tuesday, the first lady started a 13-week semester teaching composition writing classes at the Alexandria, Virginia, campus of Northern Virginia Community College, where she has taught since 2009.
This after months of teaching her classes remotely as millions of other teachers had to do during the Covid-19 pandemic.
Social media users quickly reacted to news that the first lady was headed back to the classroom and used the event to criticize the president.
"At least one Biden will be doing their job," said someone on Twitter.
"Perhaps she should teach her husband English first," added another Twitter user.
Others chose to instead make fun of Melania Trump, joking the former First Lady, on her part, "has a 'me' day at the Mar-a-Lago spa."
"In an unrelated story, Melania will be getting an 800$ pedicure today," read another tweet responding to the news.
"Dr B," as Biden likes her students to call her, will teach on Tuesdays and Thursdays, and be required to wear a mask while doing so.
The 70-year-old is the first first lady ever to hold a job outside of her White House duties, which many find admirable.
"She's so classy and dedicated. Education is an admirable calling, and we need teachers now more than ever," said one comment.
"Times change and now with both spouses working it’s only natural," read another.
But some are not too pleased by Biden's return to the classroom.
Someone deemed Biden's return to teaching "ridiculous," as she will have to be taken to work from the White House by a Secret Service motorcade.
Many wondered if Biden's presence at the college will do more harm than good.
"Does this cause stress to the school as it needs to accommodate the level of protection she requires while on campus?" asked a Twitter user. "What about the community? Can’t she take a leave of absence?"
"I get it she loves her job. But when her husband got elected she got a new job," added another Twitter user.
Despite criticism of her decision to continue to teach even as first lady, Biden has insisted that she is first an English teacher, with her White House role coming in second.
Previous Flotus Melania – who had worked as a model in the years prior to her husband's presidential run – followed a more traditional route, highlighting personal causes through official initiatives.
Nancy Reagan encouraged kids to “Just Say No” to drugs, while Barbara Bush and Laura Bush emphasized literacy and education.
Michelle Obama launched her “Let’s Move” campaign against childhood obesity about a year after moving to the White House.
