Male babysitter battered two toddlers until brains bled then ran away and hid in a field

A BABYSITTER battered two toddlers in his care so badly their brains bled before he ran off and hid in a field.

Caleb Cobb, 25, attacked the two boys, aged one and two, while he was looking after them for his mum in an apartment in Earlington, Kentucky, last Thursday, according to cops.

A statement from the Hopkins County Sheriff's Office says Cobb was watching the children when the mother came home to find them hurt and called the police.

Brandon Burchum, the father of the boys, told WFIE the one-year-old had a severe brain bleed and a broken jaw.

The boy is still being closely monitored but has now had his breathing tube removed.

The two-year-old is out of intensive care and speaking once more.

He is expected to recover from his brain bleed but will need to wear a neck brace after he was discovered to have suffered a spinal injury.

Burchum said, recalling the moment he was told his sons were seriously ill: “Are they going to be ok? Are they dead?

“I didn’t know anything.

“All I knew was that they were going to be life flighted [sent in an air ambulance]… I was just scared beyond imagination.”

Cobb was discovered the day after the attack hiding in a field.

He faces two first-degree assault charges as well as a charge of tampering with physical evidence.

Cobb also has an outstanding warrant for failure to appear.

He is currently being held in Hopkins County Jail in lieu of a $500,000 (£413,000) cash bond.

His relationship to the mother has not yet been revealed.
