Man, 52, and woman, 21, killed after car plunges into water near primary school
TWO people have died after a car plunged into water near a primary school in Lincolnshire.
The 52-year-old man and woman, 21, were travelling in a white Fiat Punto when they came off Tyler's Bridge in Chapel St Leonards at about 3.30pm today.
Emergency crews were scrambled but sadly the man couldn't be saved and was declared dead at the scene.
The woman was rushed to hospital but tragically passed away shortly after.
Lincs Police confirmed no one else was in the car at the time.
Horrified witnesses said hero bystanders jumped into the water to attempt to rescue the driver and passenger.
One told Lincolnshire Live: "According to an eyewitness, a couple of people jumped in to try to get their heads above the water."
Police are now appealing for anyone with information or dashcam footage to come forward.
A spokesperson said: "At 3.22pm a white Fiat Punto entered a waterway on Sea Lane, near the primary school.
"Despite the efforts of members of the public and emergency services, a 52-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene.
"The other person in the car, a 21-year-old woman, was taken to hospital but later died."
