Man held for attempted murder after policeman 'seriously assaulted' trying to arrest suspect in car chase
A MAN has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after a police officer was viciously attacked in an alleyway in North London.
Just after 7pm tonight officers pursed a suspect vehicle in Dartmouth Road, Hendon.
A man fled from his vehicle and was found by a cop in an alleyway in the Park Road area.
After chasing down the suspect, the officer was seriously assaulted.
The man fled the scene prior to police back up arriving.
He was found and arrested on suspicion of attempted murder.
The injuries to the officer are not thought to be life-threatening.
A crime scene is in place and enquiries continue.
Tonight's attack is the latest in a series of serious attacks on police.
In October a suspect drew two knives and tried to stab a female officer in the stomach after police were called to an address in Clapham South.
In August hero officer Andrew Harper died when he was dragged under an alleged getaway van after he was called to a burglary near the village of Sulhamstead in Berkshire.
Earlier in the same month Pc Gareth Phillips, a 42-year-old West Midlands Police traffic officer, suffered life-changing injuries when he was run over by a car thief in Birmingham.
Meanwhile Metropolitan Police constable Stuart Outten, 28, was dubbed "Britain's bravest police officer", after he Tasered a suspect while being hit with a machete.
