Met under fire for forcing Jewish activists to turn off billboard vans showing the faces of captive Israeli children

Police came under fire last night after forcing Jewish activists in London to switch off billboard vans displaying the faces of kidnapped Israeli children. 

Drivers of the vehicles, organised by the Campaign Against Antisemitism, were reportedly told to ‘turn off the billboards and clear out of central London’ after the vehicles were stopped by chanting pro-Palestinian protesters. 

They had been driving through the capital yesterday evening to raise awareness of the children being held by Hamas terrorists in Gaza. 

Screens on the vans showed the youngsters’ faces, their names and ages, with the captions ‘kidnapped by Hamas’ and ‘#bring them back’.

They had been driving through the capital yesterday evening to raise awareness of the children being held by Hamas terrorists in Gaza

But when they were confronted by pro-Palestinian protesters, police told them that they risked causing ‘a breach of the peace’. 

In a video posted to X, CAA chief executive Gideon Falter said he was forcibly moved away from his drivers and then ‘restrained’ when he asked why they had to stop. 

Mr Falter said: ‘How on earth could police stop people in central London, in our capital, from showing the pictures of children kidnapped by a terrorist organisation, banned by our government?’ 

Scotland Yard said: ‘We understand why this has caused concern. The priority of officers was the safety of everyone involved. We will be making contact with the CAA.’
