MPs could see tweets labelled lies as Twitter cracks down on dodgy facts – The Sun
MPs could face have their tweets labelled lies as Twitter cracks down on dodgy facts.
The social media giant is desperate to crack down on misinformation, and is considering marking tweets that are not true.
According to Sky News, this would see bright red and orange badges by tweets that are lies or misinformation.
Tweets flagged as "harmfully misleading" would be accompanied by the message: "Twitter Community reports have identified this tweet as violating Community Policy on Harmfully Misleading Information.
"This tweet's visibility will be reduced."
It would then show "top reports" saying why it was not true underneath it.
The Christmas general election saw a host of rows over political party tweets.
The Conservative Party was accused by Twitter of misleading the public after they rebranded one of their official party accounts to make it look like a factchecking service during a televised debate.
Twitter confirmed the leaked demo was just one way they were looking at dealing with fake news.
A spokesperson said: "We're exploring a number of ways to address misinformation and provide more context for Tweets on Twitter.
"This is a design mockup for one option that would involve community feedback.
"Misinformation is a critical issue and we will be testing many different ways to address it."
