Mum, 38, died after tripping on the stairs as she re-enacted George Michael's rendition of Elton John song with best pal | The Sun

A MUM tragically died after tripping on the stairs as she re-enacted George Michael's rendition of an Elton John song with her best pal.

Lisa Price, 36, and her friend of 30 years Dom Farrington had a long-standing joke where the mum-of-four would pretend she was the Rocketman singer.

It was inspired by Michael's final show of his 1991 tour where he surprised the crowd at Wembley Stadium with John midway through Don’t Let the Sun Go Down on Me.

Lisa would regularly pretend she was John, offering an impression of the performance, with Dom usually joining in.

But this was how the 36-year-old met her tragic end, accidentally tumbling down a set of stairs and hitting her head at her home in Rossendale, Lancashire.

On that horror day in March last year the pals, who had known each other since they were 10, had been drinking as they cheered on England in a football match.

Lisa and Dom continued enjoying each other's company while they boozed, becoming "pretty drunk" by the early evening.

In a 10-minute window between the mum sending a text and her housemate collecting a McDonald's delivery she fell to her death.

While pretending to be the British musical legend she tumbled on the last few steps of the stairs inside her home and hit her head.

Dom carried Lisa to a sofa, but was unable to wake her, so moved her back to the floor to try to resuscitate her.

LancsLive reported that instead of calling 999 he went to his mum's house an hour later and said: "I tried, I tried, honest mum, I tried my best, she died in my arms and I just left."

Dom spoke through tears as he last week recalled the way his best pal died.

An inquest into Lisa's death heard how about an hour and a half after the fall Dom called emergency services but despite paramedics' best efforts, Lisa was pronounced dead.

The moments leading up to Lisa's death saw three people – Dom, the mum's partner, and her housemate – arrested on suspicion of murder.

It came as Lisa's body had been moved after she died.

But WhatsApp voice notes showed police Lisa was having a good timein the hours leading up to her death.

The trio were released without charge, and a coroner last week confirmed the mum's death had been a tragic accident.

During the hearing, Assistant Coroner Richard Taylor said to Dom: "I know you aren't terribly proud of having left Lisa there."

She was going back up the stairs to then turn around and come down and make her appearance, like when Elton John came onstage.

Dom started sobbing as he said: "I'm devastated. I can't believe it, I'm so sorry I left. It just destroyed me.

"It's out of character for me. I was always trying to protect her. What I did wasn't right."

The pal explained the tradition he and Lisa had around the performance, adding: "She was going back up the stairs to then turn around and come down and make her appearance, like when Elton John came onstage.

"It's something we've done a lot before when we sing it together."

Assistant Coroner Richard Taylor said the inquest had been a "particularly difficult one" and returned a conclusion of accidental death.

He said: "It seems she was having a good time and there is no evidence to suggest anything other than that.

"In my mind there is nothing to suggest that what happened was anything other than an accident. It was a fall whose mechanism we will never be able to understand.

"We can speculate on that but as the doctor has said there is a blunt force injury to the back of her head which was very, very significant. Once that injury has occurred the outcome is poor."
