Off-duty cop, 46, battered by 15 youths while trying to stop assault outside his home in Bolton – The Sun

AN off-duty cop was battered by a gang as tried to stop an assault near his home in Bolton.

The 46-year-old PC was left with a broken arm after a group of 15 youths attacked him in the Westhoughton area.

He had gone outside his house to break up the previous incident but was brutally beaten by the gang after identifying himself as a cop.

During the attack a woman also jumped out of a white BMW and started hitting him with a tennis racket.

The police officer was taken to hospital where he received treatment for injuries to his face and ribs as well as a broken arm.

Two boys – both aged 16 – and a 40-year-old woman were arrested on suspicion of assault.

A second woman, also 40, was arrested on suspicion of drink-driving.

This is disgusting behaviour and will absolutely not be tolerated.

Whilst making one of the arrests, another police officer was assaulted, with a 40-year-old man arrested on suspicion of assaulting an emergency worker.

All five people have since been released under investigation.

Chief Inspector Stephanie Parker, of Greater Manchester Police, said: “This is a shocking incident where an officer has been viciously attacked after identifying himself as a police officer whilst trying to help another person.

“This is disgusting behaviour and will absolutely not be tolerated. Our officers are committed to protecting the public and keeping our streets safe and absolutely do not deserve to be treated in this way."

BRUTAL ATTACKS

It comes after a spate of savage attacks against police officers across the country.

Two cops were seriously injured in a horror 'meat cleaver' attack in Wishaw, North Lanarkshire on Sunday night.

The officers had been returning a ten-year-old boy to a home when they were set upon.

Last week a 13-year-old boy admitted attacking a police officer after claiming he thought he was helping the Black Lives Matter movement.

The boy was arrested after footage emerged of the vicious street attack where there officer was outnumbered as he was punched on the ground – with bystanders watching and laughing in Hackney, East London.
