A die-hard Orioles fan fought two young boys to catch a foul ball at Thursday night’s game then justified it by yelling to shocked onlookers: ‘I know it’s terrible, but I’ve been coming here for 30 years!’
The unidentified man was filmed running in the stands at Camden Yards in Baltimore to beat two young boys to the ball in the fifth inning.
He clambered over them, snatching it then running back to his seat while the two children watched on, deflated.
As others around them stood silently, the man felt the need to justify his desperate grab.
The man is shown grabbing the baseball from beneath a seat int he stands and victoriously holding it up in the air while the two boys watch
The boys walked away, dejected, as the man recovered from his desperate grab
He has since won sympathy from Twitter users who said they would have done the same thing.
‘I see nothing wrong with this,’ one said.
Another adult fan agreed, saying he takes batting gloves and a mitt to watch his team play to give him the best shot of catching a foul ball.
‘An adult who paid to go to a 2019 Orioles game deserves that ball more,’ said another fan who seems to be disgruntled about ticket prices.
As they both made their way back to their seats, others watched on, stunned at what he’d done
To defend himself, the man yelled out: ‘I know it’s terrible but I’ve been coming here for 30 years! 30 years!’
‘Have to side with the older dude. Certainly believable that he has been coming to the park for 30 years!
‘That said, he was likely around the same age of those kids when he started coming to watch.
‘If he was waiting this long; he deserved it. Kids have the next 30 years to catch a ball,’ another argued.
He was backed up by other baseball fans who said they would have done the same thing
