Paedophile who fled to UK to avoid trial in US jailed for series of sex attacks on children here

A PAEDOPHILE who fled to the UK to avoid trial in America has been jailed for a series of sex attacks on children here.

Daren Jones, 48, preyed on boys while using a false name to hide from British police.

He had been arrested in America ten years ago, but fled while on bail over serious sexual offences against children.

Daren Jones hid "under the radar" from British police by using the name Simon Jones, and went on to abuse more children.

Jones was arrested in Brighton in December after a series of complaints, Winchester crown court heard.
He admitted 29 offences, including sexually assaulting two boys aged under 13. He was jailed for 12 years.

Investigating officer Detective Constable Sarah Moyce-Phillips, of Hampshire Constabulary’s Child Abuse Investigation Team, said: “We hope that today’s sentence provides some form of closure to the victims and their families for what has been an extremely difficult time.

“Once the offences came to light, officers worked tirelessly to make sure Jones was arrested and could be brought to court to face justice for what he did.

“We hope that the sentence given today will give confidence to others who have suffered abuse of this nature."

A spokesman for Hampshire Constabulary said: "Following our investigation, officers tracked down Daren Jones to a hotel in Brighton, Sussex, on Wednesday December 27. He was then arrested."
