Pathetic Cincinnati Christmas tree is ultimate symbol of 2020
It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas in a pandemic.
A massive Macy’s holiday tree set up in Ohio appeared mangled with missing branches in a photo that went viral this week — sparking quips that it’s the ultimate symbol of 2020.
The 65-foot-tall Norway spruce erected in Cincinnati’s Fountain Square on Saturday is shown in the photo with still-tied-up branches, giving it a pathetic, slumped over look.
“Not sure what happened to the Christmas tree at Fountain Square but it’s the most #Christmas2020 tree ever,” one observer wrote on Twitter.
Another user cracked, “It looks like you’ve seen better days. I know, I know, 2020 has been hard for all of us.”
Others quipped that the slumping spruce rivals the sad sapling featured on a “A Charlie Brown Christmas.”
“Wrap a blue blanket around the base and put one ornament on the tree. Then, you guys will have the Linus Van Pelt Christmas tree,” another user quipped.
But Fountain Square officials pointed out the tree, which was photographed by the Cincinnati Enquirer, will soon look more jolly.
“Stay tuned for transformation photos as we get her fluffed up and beautified after her long drive into town,” Fountain Square wrote on Facebook.
