Patrons disgusted after tattoo artist inks guests at Soho cafe
What the Tat? Would you like a side of hepatitis with that egg sandwich?
Potential diners at the trendy Soho café Westbourne were aghast on Valentine’s Day Friday when they walked in and found half of the restaurant was taken over by a tattoo artist who was inking clients while food was being prepared and served.
The guest ink artist set up shop on the right side of the restaurant near where food preparations often take place.
The communal table in the middle of the vegetarian restaurant was full of young 20-something girls, giggling and waiting for their ink while one woman who was wearing shearling-lined Doc Martens without socks had her foot out on a stool getting a permanent embellishment on her left ankle. Five diners actually ate their food while the tattoo pen buzzed away.
“We’re only doing small tattoos and we aren’t seating diners on that side of the restaurant, so there’s no food there,” a manager of the “LA inspired, mission-driven, all-day café serving a vegetable-forward menu” told one freaked out patron.
“Another woman who left soon after entering said, “This can’t be legal. Or hygienic.”
Calls to Westbourne were not returned.
