Queens Rep. Grace Meng was trapped inside an unspecified room in the US Capitol building for five hours Wednesday, using chairs to barricade her door as a mob breached the building and chanted outside her door.
Meng shared photos of her “DIY” blockade to Twitter, along with a selfie of herself wearing a mask with a concerned expression on her face.
“After 5 hours I’ve been rescued from my hiding place,” Meng wrote.
“Now i can show you my DIY barricade and gas masks. Protestors were right outside the door chanting ‘USA USA’ it was scary but i am ok! Thanks all for your prayers.”
The US Capitol building was taken over Wednesday by unruly supporters of President Trump, who left a trail of destruction in their wake as they disrupted a joint session congressional vote to certify the results of the Presidential election.
One woman was killed in the mayhem, over a dozen arrests made and several guns were recovered.
Lawmakers are expected to reconvene on Wednesday night, according to House Speaker Nancy Pelosi.
