RNC 2020: Trump meets with essential workers at the White House
WASHINGTON — President Trump made a surprise appearance during the 2020 Republican National Convention kick-off on Monday, interviewing frontline workers from the East Room at the White House.
Trump met with a half a dozen essential workers, including a truck driver, police officer, postal service employee, and several nurses — many of them who had been infected with the coronavirus.
“I want to thank you all very much. It’s an honor to have you at the White House,” Trump said.
“You represent an incredible group of people and we love you all,” he said.
The president earlier Monday flew to Charlotte, NC to personally thank delegates at a subdued convention center after the event was moved entirely online amid the pandemic.
Unlike Biden who appeared on the final night of last week’s Democratic convention, Trump is expected to take center stage and speak at each night of the RNC.
