Senate committee authorizes subpoenas in Hunter Biden probe

WASHINGTON — A Senate Committee on Wednesday voted to authorize subpoenas as part of the investigation into Hunter Biden’s high-paying work for Ukrainian gas company Burisma, according to a report.

Senate Homeland Security Chairman Sen. Ron Johnson will now be able to subpoena Blue Star Strategies, the Democratic public-relations firm that Burisma engaged while Biden sat on its board, Politico reported.

The probe will investigate whether Biden and Blue Star Strategies profited off then-Vice President Joe Biden, who was in charge US policy toward Ukraine at the time.

Senate Republicans say Biden may have acted inappropriately as vice president when his son was given a high-paying seat on the board of Burisma, despite having no relevant experience.

The subpoenas come as recordings have surfaced of leaked phone calls between then-Vice President Biden and then-Ukraine president Petro Poroshenko where Biden was pushing for the ouster of the prosecutor general. Andriy Derkach, who reportedly released the audio, has claimed he has proof showing that Burisma Holdings paid Joe Biden $900,000 in lobbying fees.
