Shoemaker creates absolutely massive pair of shoes to keep people socially distanced
A SHOEMAKER has created a massive pair of shoes so people can keep socially distanced.
Grigore Lup, 55, came up with the idea for the size 75 shoes after seeing people struggle to follow social distancing measures.
The shoemaker created the long-nosed leather shoe in his shop in the Transylvanian city of Cluj.
Lup said: "You can see it on the street, people are not respecting social distancing rules.
“I went to the market to buy seedlings for my garden. There weren’t many people there but they kept getting closer and closer.
“If two people wearing these shoes were facing each other, there would be almost one-and-a-half meters between them.”
Lup, who has been making leather shoes for 39 years, relies on custom orders from theatres and opera houses across the country.
His business was left at standstill as live events were cancelled and postponed because of the pandemic.
Romania lifted its lockdown measures in mid-May as Lup hopes the new shoe design will help pick business up.
It takes Lup two days to make a pair of social-distancing shoes and almost one square metre of leather.
They cost 500 lei (£92) a pair.
Lup said he has so far received five orders for the shoes.
