Trump weighing a ‘full pardon’ for Michael Flynn

President Trump said he is mulling a “full pardon” for his former national security adviser Michael Flynn, who pleaded guilty to lying to the FBI about his contacts with Russians during the 2016 presidential campaign.

“So now it is reported that, after destroying his life & the life of his wonderful family (and many others also), the FBI, working in conjunction with the Justice Department, has ‘lost’ the records of General Michael Flynn. How convenient. I am strongly considering a Full Pardon!,” Trump posted on Twitter Sunday.

Flynn pleaded guilty in December 2017 about his conversations with then-Russian Ambassador Sergey Kislak before Trump’s inauguration.

But in January, he filed to change his plea after switching legal teams, proclaiming “I am innocent of this crime,” and accusing federal prosecutors of violating his rights and tricking him into accepting a plea deal.

The Justice Department has recommended that he serve six months in prison instead of probation.

A judge indefinitely postponed Flynn’s sentencing, which had been scheduled for Feb. 27.

He was the first Trump associate charged in former special counsel Robert Mueller’s probe into Russian interference in the 2016 election.
