Two men escape death by SECONDS after walking into flat just moments before speeding Mini crashes into the spot where they were standing

Two men escaped being hit by a Mini speeding backwards down a path after they stepped into the entrance to a flat only seconds before.
Dramatic footage recorded from inside St. Peter’s Dry Cleaners in Islington, central London, shows Wes Dalton and his friend entering his new flat only moments before a silver Mini reverses backwards at speed past the spot they had been standing in.
Mr Dalton, 42, had been moving furniture into his new flat with his friend’s help when they narrowly avoided being run over at around 10.40am on May 22.

The two men had been discussing whether it was safe to enter the flat without face coverings on and Wes said: ‘It won’t kill you.’
Seconds after stepping into the entrance to the flat a silver Mini ploughs backwards along the pavement.
After hitting Wes’ front door and scraping along shop fronts, the Mini comes to a stop outside the Duke of Cambridge pub.
Speaking about the near miss, Wes said: ‘If we had been there two seconds longer we would have been dead.
‘Massive chunks of concrete fell down from my doorstep. At first we thought the balcony had fallen down from above.

‘We were both in total shock for a second.’
Wes and his friend came out of the flat to see what had happened and discovered that an elderly man had got stuck in reverse while driving and had driven backwards down the pavement at 40mph.
The driver was unharmed in the crash and emergency services helped him out of the car.
Wes said he went and had a coffee with his friend after the near miss to take in what had happened and explained that theyw ere both ‘a bit all over the place.’
After watching the CCTV footage he said: ‘I’m feeling really blessed to be alive.
‘The funny thing was we were talking about his safety – with a mask – to go into the flat.
‘If we’d stood there for a few seconds longer I honestly, honestly believe we would be dead.’
A London Ambulance Service spokesman said that two ambulance crews and a number of specialist resources were sent to the crash.
Police were also called but did not make any arrests.
