Two people have been injured in a Merseyside house explosion – less than a day after a blast killed a pensioner in his Edinburgh home.
Shocking pictures show debris strewn across the residential road in Tranmere, where the terrace property had been entirely destroyed.
Clothing and household items are sprayed onto the street amongst burnt out debris – as emergency services confirmed two casualties were taken to hospital, where they still remain.
It comes just a day after a man, 84, died after the horrific house explosion on Baberton Mains Avenue in Edinburgh.
Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service said they received a call about the incident on Holt Road at 7.42am and crews were on the scene within five minutes.
They then checked there was no one left in the two-storey brick-built mid-terrace property, worth roughly £120,000, before using a hose jet to douse a fire.

Two firefighters donned breathing apparatus as they tackled the blaze inside the property.
Properties on either side of the affected home were evacuated, while gas and electricity services for them have been temporarily halted.
A spokesperson from the fire service said representatives from regional gas supplier Cadent had been requested at the address.
At the height of the incident, four fire engines and an aerial appliance attended the scene alongside Merseyside Police and the North West Ambulance Service (NAWS).
One resident claimed she and several other residents heard the explosion and immediately informed the emergency services.
She said: ‘We were screaming down the phone, shouting. There were 10 of us.’
A Merseyside Fire and Rescue service spokesperson said: ‘Crews were alerted at 07.42 with a fire engine from Birkenhead first on scene at 07.47.
‘At the height of the incident there was four fire engines and the aerial appliance in attendance.

‘Neighbours have stated to Fire Service personnel that all persons were out of the property prior to Fire Service arrival.
‘Fire fighting commenced with one hose reel jet being utilised.
‘Two casualties are in the care of NWAS Paramedics and have been conveyed to hospital.
‘All properties along the road where the affected property is situated have now been evacuated with gas and electrics isolated.’
At 10.25pm on Friday Police Scotland said officers were called to the Baberton area of Edinburgh following ‘multiple reports’ of an incident which destroyed a home.
The property was reduced to rubble and debris was strewn across the residential street in Baberton after the blast at around 10.25pm.
The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service said five appliances had been in attendance and that two people had been rescued from the ruins of the home prior to their arrival.
A 43-year-old woman and 54-year-old man were also taken to hospital for treatment, but their condition is currently unknown.
Some locals reported hearing the explosion as far away as Gilmerton, a suburb miles from the blast site.
Neighbours said they felt their homes shaking, while another person posted that they had heard the blast from inside a cinema in nearby Wester Hailes.
