UK weather forecast – Flooding hits Britain as tail-end of Hurricane Humberto dumps 3inches of rain in hours, and more tomorrow

FLOODING has wrecked havoc on the UK as the remnants of Hurricane Humberto dumped three-inches of rain in a matter of hours – with more forecasted for tomorrow.

Today's misery was brought by a burst of low pressure travelling across the UK, along with warm and humid air linked to the remnants of Hurricane Humberto.

Six flood warnings and 43 flood alerts were issued across South West England, West Midlands, North West England and East England by the Environment Agency.

The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for rain today for parts of England and Wales that will last 10pm.

Met Office meteorologist Steven Keates said: "I wouldn't be surprised if more (warnings) are issued before the week has finished."

Met Office forecaster Luke Miall said 48mm of rain has been dumped on parts of Hampshire in six hours, while mid-Dorset suffered 36.4mm.

Some areas saw more than 50mm of rain in less than 12 hours as wind, rain and thunder battered parts of the country.

Boscombe Down in Wiltshire has seen the heaviest rainfall, with 51.2mm falling at the military base near Amesbury in the 12 hours to 1pm.

Mr Keates described today as a "very mixed bag for the weather".

London commuters reported rain causing flooding and delays as they tried to head home on this evening.
