Victoria has recorded no new local cases of coronavirus for the fourth day in a row and none in hotel quarantine, as another shipment of Pfizer vaccines landed in Australia.
There are still 25 active cases in the state, and there were more than 17,000 tests processed in the past day.
Federal Health Minister Greg Hunt announced on Tuesday that a second shipment of the Pfizer vaccine had arrived in Australia.
The national vaccine program started on Monday. Aged care residents and frontline workers the first to receive the first of two doses of the vaccine.
Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews said 580 vaccines were administered in Victoria on Monday.
“I can also confirm that 580 vaccines have been administered on the very first day of that program,” Mr Andrews said.
“The important thing there is to do it in a slow and steady way. We want to minimise any wastage.
“You want to make sure that people are getting those first shots … those numbers will build obviously, as the days and weeks unfold.”
Mr Andrews also said Victoria was well-placed to see out the Holiday Inn outbreak as close contacts approach the end of their 14-day quarantine period, and test results from the targeted cohort were negative.
“The last of the cases from that Holiday Inn outbreak, the 14 days for them is this Friday,” Mr Andrews said.
More to come.
