What is the rule of six and what are the exceptions?

What is the rule of six?
The rule of six was first introduced across England in September to lower the number of people meeting in groups.
Under the former rules, no more than 30 people could meet inside with up to one other household, but that was slashed to just six.
When the rule is in place, any social gatherings of more than six people goes against the law.
The rules stipulate that the six people can be from different households, in an attempt to bring rules in line with outdoor gatherings.
Anyone in your support bubble counts as one household.
The rule of six will include children, so if there is a household of five with three kids and two parents, they will only be able to meet up with one other person.
The rule of six also extends to gatherings organised outside.
When will the rule of six return?
The rule of six is expected to be reintroduced across Britain for outdoor gatherings from March 29.
This will allow six people from up to six different households to mix in parks and private gardens.
This means families in the UK will be meeting together by Easter.
As well as the rule of six returning for Brits, regional tiers have also been scrapped.

What are the exemptions to the rule of six?
A single household or support bubble that is larger than six people will be exempt.
Exemptions will also apply for weddings and funerals and in a Covid-secure way.
Gatherings for more than six are allowed for work, schools or education purposes.
Places of worship will also be exempt.
