Emmerdale viewers furious as Maya Stepney storyline returns ‘Sack the writers’
Maya Stepney (played by Louisa Clein) is currently in prison for grooming and abusing schoolboy Jacob Gallagher (Joe-Warren Plant).
However Emmerdale viewers have hit out at the ITV soap writers as the storyline continues this week.
Jacob is still struggling to cope with Maya’s sentence and has vowed to wait for the disgraced teacher.
But last night, David Metcalfe (Matthew Wolfenden) and Leyla Harding (Roxy Shahidi) confronted Jacob over his attempts to communicate with Maya.
David raged: “We know Jake, we know you’ve been writing to Maya.
“You didn’t honestly think they were going to pass them on to her, did you? She’s in prison not an exchange trip.”
Leyla added “The prison called David yesterday and they have withheld the letters.
“The judge said no contact at all.”
But Emmerdale fans weren’t pleased with the return of the storyline despite Maya’s sentencing and took to Twitter to slam the soap.
One viewer commented: “Sack the Emmerdale writers! This paedo stuff has been dragging on for an absolute age!!”
Another wrote: “The Emmerdale producers need to get new jobs. This paedo storyline has been going on forever!”
“#emmerdale when will Maya storyline die? It’s been dragged on for far too long,” a third tweeted.
However some viewers welcomed the return of Maya and hoped for a different conclusion to the grooming storyline.
One said: “Ooh, I hope this means the Jacob and Maya stuff is going to get a more satisfying conclusion and some help for Jacob #Emmerdale.”
“Can Maya come back already? Spent months loving the show when that storyline happened – oops… #Emmerdale,” another shared.
Meanwhile, Megan Macey (Gaynor Faye) may be set to expose Kerry Wyatt (Laura Norton) before she leaves the village.
Megan is struggling to cope after her would-be fiancé Frank Clayton (Michael Praed) died in the factory explosion.
Kerry and Amy Wyatt (Natalie Ann Jamieson) caused the blaze but police concluded Frank was to blame.
Emmerdale have since released teaser images that show Megan delivering some tough home truths to the congregation at Frank’s funeral.
Has she discovered who was really behind the blaze?
Emmerdale continues tonight at 7pm on ITV.
