Judy star Jessie Buckley says Renee Zellweger is a 'gorgeous little spirit' as she tells Chris Evans about working with her
JUDY star Jessie Buckley has heaped praise on Renee Zellweger, calling her a "gorgeous little spirit" as she told Chris Evans all about working with her.
The 29-year-old actress plays Rosalyn Wilder in the Judy Garland biopic, with 50-year-old Renee taking on the role of her titular character.
And Jessie couldn't speak more highly of the Bridget Jones icon when she appeared on Chris' Virgin Radio Breakfast Show earlier this morning.
When the DJ asked the star what it was like working with the Oscar-winning actress, the Irish beauty gushed: "She is the most gorgeous, beautiful little spirit of a soul.
"I honestly love her with all my heart, she kind of bottles in in the morning, in her little cap and tracksuit, like 'Hey babe'… Then she gets into the chair and over the hours she just transformed into Judy Garland.
"She is an amazing woman and an incredible performer – who does incredible things to make other people come alive.
"Often I'd just stand in the wings and just watch her."
Jessie continued: "One minute she is plopping herself down, talking to all of the extras, and then she is standing up and singing Somewhere Over The Rainbow and giving that performance at the end.
"I just wish her everything, I couldn't respect her and lover her more as a woman."
Chris echoed Jessie's sentiment when it came to Renee's onscreen charisma, insisting that he had no idea the Chicago star was the woman playing the icon Judy Garland.
He admitted that he was eager to see who the sensational actress was when the credits rolled, floored that he didn't recognise Renee at all.
Renee previously revealed that she struggled with the pressure of fame just like her Judy character.
She said: "There are certain things about Judy’s experiences I might understand.
"People are depending on you. We all deal with this stuff.
"It’s just a different experience, in that we deal with it publicly."
The Chris Evans Virgin Radio Breakfast Show with Sky, weekdays from 6:30am.
