Kathy Burke called the Jeremy Kyle Show ‘vile’ and hopes it’s cancelled
Comedian Kathy Burke called The Jeremy Kyle Show ‘vile’ and hopes it’s cancelled after it was pulled off air and suspended indefinitely following the death of a contestant.
The Absolutely Fabulous comedian took to Twitter and condemned the show: ‘Hope it’s the end of that vile, Kyle show,’ she wrote.
Many people agreed with Kathy on social media following the news of the show’s cancellation.
‘That show just mocks the most disadvantaged in society for the benefit of ratings. I’ve hated it for years. Jeremy Kyle is not a journalist, he’s a bear-baiter. Is rather sit through Dickinson Real Deal than Kyle anytime!!,’ one said.
‘Absolutely despise that show. Parading people on national TV so they can be laughed at and humiliated,’ another added. ‘Regardless of the support and help Kyle etc will say they give people, they shouldn’t have to go through the most public of humiliations to get that help.’
The Jeremy Kyle Show was pulled today after a guest died shortly after filming.
ITV have since confirmed the episode wouldn’t be aired and would be replaced with an episode of Dickinson’s Real Deal.
An ITV spokeswoman said: ‘Everyone at ITV and The Jeremy Kyle Show is shocked and saddened at the news of the death of a participant in the show a week after the recording of the episode they featured in and our thoughts are with their family and friends.
‘ITV will not screen the episode in which they featured.
‘Given the seriousness of this event, ITV has also decided to suspend both filming and broadcasting of The Jeremy Kyle Show with immediate effect in order to give it time to conduct a review of this episode of the show.’
An industry insider told The Sun everyone involved in the show completely understands the need for an investigation.
‘It’s everyone’s worst nightmare, and something that is taken extremely seriously by all involved,’ they explained.
‘Jeremy and the team are extremely proud of the show and the aftercare which guests receive, and in 14 years on air there has never been an incident like this.
‘It’s very saddening, but of course all involved understand that an investigation needs to take place before any more decisions can be taken about the future.’
Former EastEnders star Danniella Westbrook has revealed her appearance on The Jeremy Kyle Show is expected to air tomorrow, but there’s still been no update as to when the programme can return.
