Sleepwalking girl survives 100ft fall after terrifying climb over hotel balcony

A little girl has miraculously survived after plunging 100ft from a Thai hotel's balcony while she was sleepwalking.

Terrifying surveillance camera footage from the hotel shows the five-year-old walking in the corridor on the 11th floor during the early hours on Sunday morning before her fall.

The unnamed girl had been unable to get back into the room on the 12th floor after realising it was locked, so walked down to the floor below.

The clip shows her calmly walking toward the balcony on the 11th floor and climbing over a ledge to try and go down.

But she could not support her body weight and fell more than 100 feet to the ground below.

According to reports, the girl was staying at D Varee Jomtien Beach Hotel where her father Decha Sookplum, 43, has his high school reunion party at Pattaya.

Hotel staff were alerted by the loud bang and rushed to the location where they found the unconscious girl.

She was immediately rushed to Bangkok Hospital Pattaya in an ambulance.

Decha heard about his daughter's accident and was taken to the hospital after being woken by hotel porters.

Decha, who is a police officer at Srisaket province, said he was not aware of his daughter's behaviour and believed that she was just sleepwalking.

He said: "I didn't know when or how long she left the room until the staff told me.

"I think she didn't know she left the room until she woke up and tried every way to get back to me."

The youngster suffered a broken leg and arm and was transferred to intensive care at Chonburi Hospital accompanied by her father yesterday.

Prawit Choosing, police chief at Pattaya city, inspected the footage and said: "The child didn't seem to hesitate before she climbed up to the balcony.

"But she also didn't think that her reckless behaviour would cause her in trouble.

"It is the parents' duty to look after children very closely because they can be mischievous sometimes. Parents must be fully aware of this."
