Who is on the Graham Norton Show tonight? – The Sun
GRAHAM Norton is back tonight for a Friday night fix of celeb laughs.
The Irishman has Hollywood's finest on the sofa, including Emma Thompson and Robert Downey Jr, alongside comedy geniuses Hugh Laurie and Terry Gilliam.
Who is on The Graham Norton Show tonight?
From Marvel hero to a Monty Python legend, Graham has a stellar line-up of A-listers on his sofa this evening.
Stars of new fantasy film Dolittle, Iron Man Robert Downey Jr and Oscar-winning actress Emma Thompson will be chatting about their new movie.
Actor Hugh Laurie talks about his role as Mr. Dick in The Personal History of David Copperfield, alongside Monthy Python's Terry Gilliam who will be honouring the late Terry Jones sharing stories of their time together on set.
Special guest singer and songwriter Sara Bareilles, the composer of West End musical Waitress, will perform She Used to be Mine from the play.
Robert Downey Jr
Downey Jr will be chatting to Graham about playing Iron Man for 11 years and what it feels like to hang up the superhero suit after his character's demise in Avengers: Endgame.
Alongside co-star Emma Thompson the 54-year-old actor will discuss his new star-studded film Dolittle in which he plays Dr. Dolittle – a vet who can talk to animals.
He reveals: "Sometimes it’s working against green screens, or with animal actors dressed in green suits, or with something on the end of a stick – like usual hallucinations!"
Talking about the Welsh accent he takes on for his role in Dolittle, he shares: "It’s a passable Welsh accent, which is good for me. I wanted to do something different after Sherlock and Chaplin and I’d read about this nutty doctor from the 19th Century – Dr. Price – so I based my character on him.”
Emma Thompson
The Oscar-winning actress joins Downey Jr to promote their new movie where she voices Poly the parrot.
Chatting about more personal matters, the 60-year-old reveals how she thought her husband of 25 years would get together with Kate Winslet.
Emma's husband, fellow actor and producer Greg Wise was apparently convinced he would end up with the Titanic actress after a psychic told him he would meet 'The One' on set of Sense and Sensibility.
She reveals: "Before he did the job, he went to see a friend of his who was a bit witchy and she said he would meet his future partner on the film.
"He assumed it wasn't me because I was married and quite lot older than him so he thought it might be Kate (Winslet).
"He took her to Glastonbury, and she was so bored, and he thought, 'This isn't going to work, who can it be?'
"Then things happened that probably shouldn't have happened, and it's been 25 years in May."
Hugh Laurie
Discussing new Sky One comedy Avenue 5, Hugh tells Graham all about working with director Armando Iannucci who he describes a "genius".
He also talks about playing Mr. Dick in new flick The Personal History of David Copperfield. The actor and comedian says: "He was probably one of the first characters in novel form to have a mental illness and in Victorian times it must have been a particularly brutal predicament.
"I find the film very touching and very good-hearted – you fall in love with all the characters.”
The 60-year-old jokes about the fun he had filming the movie: "It was almost indecent how much fun it was. I feel like work should be hard and slightly miserable.
"It was a wonderful group of people and a wonderful director. I felt good after making the film."
Terry Gilliam
Following the recent news of Monty Python co-star Terry Jones's death on January 21, director and actor Terry pays tribute to his late friend and shares fun anecdotes of their time together on set.
He shares: "The Pythons are now even more of an endangered species – a third of us are gone. He was an extraordinary, unbelievable, wonderful human being. Because we were both called Terry there was confusion and people would mix us up – what Terry had done they would blame me for and vice versa."
After raising a glass to his late friend, the 79-year-old reveals a t-shirt that reads 'I'm not dead yet'.
Gilliam also talks of his new film The Man That Killed Don Quixote which has been three decades in the making.
He says: “It started so well in 1989 but then it all fell apart. When we tried to film it the first-time round, we had fighter bombers flying over ruining our sound, flash floods that destroyed all our equipment and a lead actor that couldn’t ride horse due to a testicular problem.
"It was clear there is God and he didn’t like me. When we finally got the money and it all came together, it was extraordinary.”
