“We’re always thinking of the barefoot luxury: relaxed and being at home, but you can dress it up,” designer Johanna Ortiz remarked over Zoom. With uncertain times ahead, the Colombian designer wanted to continue “bringing festiveness and happiness in another way.” She did so through a quintessential Johanna Ortiz collection that seamlessly followed resort’s versatile offerings with relaxed fashions. This season Ortiz brought the brand even closer to home, shooting her spring video and look book on the streets of her hometown, Cali. True to the brand, the designer offered optimism and femininity through vibrant prints, pouffed sleeves, pleating details and plenty of flou.
Festive frocks and matching sets came in joyful colorways with oversized floral prints, many of which came in cotton — perfect for entertaining at home or dressed up for a night out. “Trying to use the same dress in different ways, for different occasions, has also been part of our philosophy,” Ortiz explained. Leaning into comfort, the designer debuted knits à la an ultra chic bodysuit, ankle dress cardigan and midiskirt alongside stellar tunics and mola embroidered offerings. A tonal cream set — a pleated and pouffed top with mola embroidered cotton denim column skirt — offered a more relaxed look to Ortiz’s festive forte, as did tonal, elegant but unfussy sets, easy silk mididresses and the line’s singular Amazonia T-shirt (from which all proceeds will be donated to Act 4 Amazonia, a group working for ecosystem recovery in the Amazon region).
To round out the collection, Ortiz offered fabulous accessories — oversized (but incredibly lightweight) baubles and bags made from Iraca palm fibers by artisans from Sandoná-Nariño as well as embroidered mochila bags made in collaboration with Emberá-Chamí indigenous community from Pereira, Colombia. Through their collaboration, Ortiz also wanted to send a message of positivity and sisterhood while raising awareness for breast cancer, adding little pink embroidered raffia palm trees to the backs of select garments.
