Former Good Morning Britain presenter Piers Morgan has raged over reports that the new head chef at Claridge’s, Daniel Humm, wants to turn the prestigious hotel menu entirely vegan. Taking to Twitter, the former newspaper editor fumed over reports that the Swiss chef wants to veganise the meat-based menu and branded the Michelin-star chef a “virtue-signalling, kale-loving chump” before imploring Claridge’s to find a new chef.

In view of his 7.9 million followers, Piers didn’t hold back as he made his thoughts on the subject clear.
He wrote: “FFS.
“Let this virtue-signalling kale-loving chump go and find a chef who likes cooking food people actually want to eat.”
The star was responding to an article by Mail+ Diary Editor Richard Eden, who reported that the chef and the Mayfair hotel were in “tense talks” over the proposed vegan manu.
Recently, the Swiss chef sparked an uproar when he announced that his New York based restaurant Eleven Madison Park was turning their £250-a-head menu completely vegan.
Items that reportedly feature on the new menu include cucumber with melon, and smoked daikon and courgette with lemongrass and tofu.
By comparison, Claridge’s features tournedos of Aberdeen Angus beef, ballotine of foie gras, and caviar.
Humm made an appearance at the Cop26 summit last week where he stated that he was determined “to make plant-based food delicious, magical and luxurious.”
He explained: “It’s better for our planet and our health.”
Many of Piers’ followers responded to the star, agreeing that it was time for the top chef to give up on trying to make the change at Claridge’s.
Amanda Ochampaugh replied: “Best thing would be him leaving and opening up his own vegan restaurant.”
Linda Whyte added: “Won’t be going there then.”
Monica Simpson penned: “Oooh what a shame, I was going to book my Christmas lunch there.
“But, seeing as the chef can only cook sprouts I don’t think I’ll bother!”
However, others revealed that they were excited by the news.
Alan Edwards replied: “As a vegan, I love this.”
“If he cooks it, I’ll probably love it – whatever the ingredients,” penned Helen Black.
Piers has previously made his feelings on a meat-free diet clear and is staunchly anti-vegan.
At the end of last January, the star took to Twitter to celebrate the end of Veganuary, which saw hundreds of thousands of people ditch meat for a month and go vegan to promote a healthier lifestyle.
He wrote: “It’s a momentous day. One in which Britain finally brings to an end a ghastly experiment that’s brought us nothing but suffering.
“At midnight, I urge us all to celebrate our freedom with riotous jubilation. Finally, the hell is over. Good riddance #Veganuary!” he added.
