Emmerdale confirms exit for major character after 12 years with devastating end
Dan Spencer (Liam Fox) has left Emmerdale after being sentenced to 8 years beind bars.
The beloved character was in court today (August 17) to find out how long he’d go to prison for after attacking a stalker called Lloyd.
Lloyd arrived in the village wanting to spend more time with Amelia (Daisy Campbell) and was regularly warned by Dan to leave the teenager alone.
During the final confrontation, Lloyd wound Dan up so much, he punched him in the face. This led to Lloyd spending weeks in a coma and then eventually dying, with Dan’s charge being changed to manslaughter because the attack caused Lloyd’s death.

Dan then had a few weeks left in the village as a free man. Yesterday, he spent the afternoon with Amelia and Esther in the Yorkshire hills, eating picnic food and reminiscing about their past.
In Thursday’s (August 17) episode, it was Dan’s final day in the Dales.
He largely spent it surrounded by friends and family. During his last trip to the pub, Dan was gifted a personalised tankard by Chas (Lucy Pargeter), who said there will always be a pint with his name on it.
The one thing that echoed around the pub was the fact that Dan Spencer is a good man. He is a hardworking member of the village who wants the best for his family and simply made a terrible mistake by attacking Lloyd. As this was discussed, everyone was in agreement that Dan more than likely won’t get that long behind bars.
But they were wrong.
Dan arrived in court and delivered his statement, mentioning how he’ll regret his actions for the rest of his life, but efforts from himself and his solicitor weren’t enough.
The Judge explained that because Dan had made the mistake by saying he’d attack Lloyd again, it suggests he poses a danger and therefore, must spend 8 years behind bars.
Dan, Amelia and Mandy (Lisa Riley) were utterly horrified, given they were all secretly hoping his sentence would be a lot shorter.
As Dan’s fate was revealed back in the village, we saw the character for one final time walking through a corridor with two guards next to him.
All Amelia could do was shout for her dad, but Dan just had to keep walking.
Because Dan hasn’t been killed, there is every chance we will see him again in the future. However, 8 years behind bars will change Dan forever – the Dan we meet when he’s eventually released will not be the same person we said goodbye to.
