Rumor: "Feeling Around" League Is That Tom Brady Will Stay With Patriots

New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady is currently scheduled to enter free agency for the first in his career, but a new report suggests he won’t go anywhere.

According to Bleacher Report’s Matt Miller, there’s a “feeling around the NFL” that Brady will end up re-signing with New England. Somebody who used to work in the organization suggested “Bill Belichick knows he can’t win with any other available QB.”

Belichick has gone 14-6 without Brady since the 2008 season, with Matt Cassel, Jimmy Garoppolo and Jacoby Brissett. The Patriots head coach has also found mega success in replacing veteran talents with young guys, but he apparently isn’t keen on his chances without the six-time Super Bowl champion quarterback.

This year’s trade and free agent markets aren’t short in quality quarterbacks. Philip Rivers, Jameis Winston and Teddy Bridgewater are among the marquee quarterbacks set to hit the free agent market.

Andy Dalton is also reportedly available via trade, and 2015 MVP Cam Newton might be traded by the Carolina Panthers, too, given recent injury history. Matthew Stafford’s name has also popped up in the trade rumor mill.

There have been reports about rift between Brady and Belichick dating back to the 2018 season, but whatever tension there may be, the two men haven’t let it get in the way. The Patriots have reached the Super Bowl in two of the past three seasons, winning it all a year ago.

Brady endured one of the worst statistical seasons of his career in 2019. After a promising 8-0 start, the Patriots lost four of their final eight games — and three of their last five overall — to lose out on a first-round bye.

The Patriots were eliminated by the Tennessee Titans in the AFC Wild Card Round. On his final pass attempt of the game, Brady threw a pick-six to former teammate Logan Ryan. Whether or not that holds up as the final play of Brady’s illustrious career in Foxbourgh remains to be seen.
