Ana de Armas explains the reason she was ‘terrified’ to make SNL debut

Ana de Armas, 34, revealed she was “freaking out” ahead of her Saturday Night Live hosting debut in a new candid interview.

But despite her initial fears, the Cuban-born Bond Girl delivered a fantastic opening monologue, which included a joke about learning English watching Friends.

Appearing on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon on Tuesday, Ana said: “I was freaking out!

“Like there’s no way I can get through this week and no one can prepare you for that – whatever they say.”

However, Ana clarified that once she got over the nerves, she was able to relax and “make fun of herself”.

She even confessed she “begged” the show’s bosses to bring her back as it had been the “best experience ever”.

Ana went on: “There’s so much going on you know and coming at you and it’s terrifying but you have to just make fun of yourself and go with it.

“And then on Saturday I was begging them to bring me back – please have me again! It’s incredible, the best experience ever.”

The confession comes after last year Ana revealed the scrutiny she received during her time dating Hollywood star Ben Affleck confirmed LA was “not the place for her”.

Ben and Ana had a highly-publicised relationship for a brief period of time back in 2020 during the coronavirus pandemic before calling it quits.

The actress opened up about their high-profile romance in an August 2022 interview, where she admitted that her love life being the subject of headlines was a “horrible” experience.

She described how leaving LA was one “good” thing to come out of her failed relationship with Ben.

“Going through it [myself] confirmed my thoughts about, ‘This is not the place for me to be,'” she explained.

“It became a little bit too much. There’s no escape. There’s no way out,” she reflected in the August 2022 issue of Elle magazine.
