Britains Got Talent finalist comes out as trans and changes name 9 years after show
Britain's Got Talent star Gabz has come out as trans and has officially changed his name to Ashley Gray nine years after starring on the ITV programme.
The star had reached the finals back in 2013 as a 13 year old after performing a self-penned rap track titled The One – which reached number 6 in the UK charts later.
Now, nearly a decade later, the singer has taken to his TikTok account to share some exciting news as he's changed his name to Ashley Gray and is on the waitlist for gender reassignment surgery.
Wearing a black hoodie, he started the two-minute video by sharing: "I just wanted to do a little update video for you guys because I haven't made a video on here in quite a while… Because I'm anxious, I'm anxious making these videos."
The musician, who previously shared he was non-binary last year but now goes by the pronouns he/him, continued: “It went really well, I mean I just cried the whole time, but it went really well.
"Basically I have some exciting news. So, if you didn’t know, I’m trans and I’ve been waiting on the gender clinic waiting list for quite a while so I decided to go private.
“I waited seven months and then yesterday I had my first appointment, which is really exciting. It went really well. I mean I just cried the whole time but it went really well."
He then shared: “Which means I’m going to be able to change the name on my passport and my gender mark on my passport, which is exciting.” Ashley then said he actually officially changed his name a few months ago."
Ashley continued: “I feel like a lot of the waiting around for the stuff is money problems. It’s so expensive, so going through the NHS it is free. I feel like I’m going to have updates soon on when I can start T [treatment].
“I’ll have to see how long it’s going to be for top surgery, because hopefully I won’t have to fundraise any more for that. Hopefully I’ll be able to do it through the NHS.
