Disney cancels ‘Descendants 3’ premiere after Cameron Boyce’s death

Disney has canceled the red carpet premiere for “Descendants 3” after the sudden death of actor Cameron Boyce.

“We’re proud to be part of Cameron Boyce’s legacy by showcasing his talents on screen but we are canceling the red carpet premiere event for ‘Descendants 3’ and instead, The Walt Disney Company will make a donation to the Thirst Project, a philanthropic organization to which Cameron was deeply committed,” Disney told Page Six in a statement on Thursday.

The Thirst Project is a nonprofit organization that aims to work with young people to end the global water crisis.

The red carpet was originally scheduled for July 22.

Boyce passed away on July 6 after suffering from an epileptic seizure at his California home. He was 20 years old.

“With permission from the Boyce family, Disney Channel will dedicate the telecast of ‘Descendants 3’ in Cameron Boyce’s memory,” the statement concluded.

Over the past week, Boyce’s fellow Disney stars took to social media to pay tribute to the actor.

“To the boy whose contagious laugh I can still hear. The boy who left everyone feeling hopeful and full of love,” “Jessie” star, Peyton List, wrote on Instagram. “He was younger than me but taught me how to spread love and kindness more than anyone that has ever been in my life.”

“Descendants 3” is currently set to premiere on the Disney Channel on Aug. 2.
