EastEnders and Grange Hill star Lee MacDonald reveals engagement with famous catchphrase

English actor Lee MacDonald has got engaged to his long-term partner Jess.

The 51-year-old star, who currently plays Terry in EastEnders, took to Twitter to announce the exciting news on March 21.

He posted a picture of himself with his bride-to-be online alongside his announcement.

Lee is probably best known for starring in BBC school drama Grange Hill in the 1980s.

He played Samuel ‘Zammo’ McGuire in the series from 1982-1987.

Referencing his famous ‘Just Say No’ anti-drug campaign in his post, he wrote: “My partner Jess ‘JUST SAID YES’! Wedding next.”

Lee and the cast of Grange Hill had a top ten hit with the charity single Just Say No, after his character became addicted to heroin in the show.

In the picture, the beaming pair can be seen holding hands and showing off the engagement ring.

Twitter users headed straight to the comment section to congratulate the couple.

One user wrote: “Congratulations to you both. In these dark times, it’s lovely to see something fabulous!

Others continued to reference the show, adding: “The new Mrs Zammo,” and “What would Jackie say?”

Actor Sean Maguire, who joined the cast of Grange Hill in 1988, said: “Congrats Lee.”

Lee is not the only actor to make the jump from Grange Hill to EastEnders.

Others include on-screen Albert Square siblings Michelle and Mark Fowler who both played school kids in the school show before landing their roles in the soap.

Todd Carty – who played Mark – stared at Tucker Jenkins and actress Susan Tully – who portrayed Michelle – played schoolgirl Suzanne Ross.

Sean Maguire and Michelle Gayle also appeared in both shows.
