Hailee Steinfeld Is Bringing Back the '00s Pants-Under-Dress Look
She may not have been old enough when Hollywood's up-and-comers were all wearing jeans under their bedazzled bubble-hem dresses, but Hailee Steinfeld is bringing the look back to the red carpet in 2021. At the premiere of her new Disney+ series, Hawkeye, Steinfeld wore a look from the Richard Quinn Spring 2022 collection (Cardi B is also a fan) that featured a short dress paired with stretchy black pants that attached to her shoes. Vogue notes that they're made of airy chiffon and meant to contrast with the more structured and traditional shapes of the dress on top.
The dress in question included a pink satin detail on the bodice and an allover floral print in a silhouette that could best be described as '80s prom. Party-ready thanks to the crinoline shape, Steinfeld completed the look with long white gloves, which is exactly how Quinn showed the look on the runway. And being that the Hawkeye premiere was held in London, the newly minted Kate Bishop added a poppy pin to the minidress to commemorate Remembrance Day.
The series hits Disney+ on Nov. 24, just in time for Thanksgiving binging. Co-star Jeremy Renner spoke to Entertainment Weekly about passing the Hawkeye mantle to Bishop, clarifying that they're not related (no father-daughter duo here). He noted that the series will show Bishop's die-hard stanning of the Hawkeye character as well as a different side of the Avengers archer that audiences have come to know (and love or hate, depending).
"[Kate is] a 22-year-old kid and she's a big Hawkeye fan," Renner tells EW. "She has a wonderfully annoying and equally charming manner about her, because she's such a fangirl of Hawkeye. The relationship grows from that, but the biggest problem for Clint is Kate Bishop and the onslaught of problems that she brings into his life."
Steinfeld told Empire that her character doesn't quite know what to expect from linking up with her idol and, in true Marvel star fashion, doesn't give up much more information on the show's plot.
"Kate wants to do good; she has this burning desire to follow in Hawkeye's footsteps," she said. "She's idolized this person forever and then she finds herself on this wild ride with him."
