Katya Jones: Ex Strictly Come Dancing star admits concerns about pro ‘I have no idea how’

Strictly Come Dancing pro Katya Jones, 29, will make her pantomime debut as Glinda the Good Witch in Wizard of Oz at the Peterborough New Theatre in December.

At the moment, she is currently partnered up with BBC Breakfast star Mike Bushell, 53, on the BBC show.

The date of the Strictly final is yet to be confirmed, but according to the panto’s website, Katya will not be performing on stage until Saturday 14 December.

Former Strictly pro Robin Windsor, 40, has revealed he is unsure how the pros sign up to other commitments during their time on the BBC show.

I have no idea how they’re going to manage it

Robin, who has replaced Kelvin Fletcher in theatre show Aladdin, told Express.co.uk: “I find it fascinating that there’s a few of the Strictly pros doing panto this year.

“I’m still trying to work out how they’re going to fit that in their schedule.

“You’ve got AJ [Pritchard] in Peter Pan and Katya Jones is one of the witches in Wizard of OZ, so I don’t know how they’re going to fit that in while still on Strictly.

“I have no idea how they’re going to learn their scripts, I’m not very good at learning scripts.

“But with them having to work all those hours and learning scripts, I have no idea how they’re going to manage it.”

Robin went on to joke that Katya and AJ could potentially forget their lines due to lack of practise time.

“There might be someone on the side of the stage giving them a quick nod if they’ve forgotten a line or two,” he added.

Robin replaced former Emmerdale star Kelvin after he stepped down from his main lead in Aladdin for Strictly at short notice.

Kelvin joined Strictly Come Dancing as Jamie Laing’s replacement after the latter quit the show due to an injury.

Since joining the show, Kelvin has been wowing the judges and audience with his energetic moves with dance partner Oti Mabuse.

Earlier this month, he was the first contestant to be given a 10 for his Charleston by judges Shirley Ballas and Bruno Tonioli.

Ex Strictly pro Robin Windsor believes Kelvin Fletcher’s Charleston was overmarked.

He said: “He got the first 10 of the series, which I have to say, I don’t want to put a downer on it but I don’t think it [the dance] was a 10 so soon.

“The rest of the dance was amazing but those lifts were lumpy and that 10 from Shirley was just a little too early.

“If you’re going to get a 10 that early on, you need to get that from something being perfect.

“At this stage as well, if you start getting 10s you’ve got nowhere to go.”

Catch Robin performing as Aladdin at the St.Helens Theatre Royal from Saturday 7 December to Sunday 12 January.

Strictly Come Dancing continues this Saturday at 6.40pm on BBC One.
