KISS’ Gene Simmons Declares ‘Rock Is Dead’ But Offers Praise For Billie Eilish, Lady Gaga

Gene Simmons has proclaimed for a second time that the rock genre of music is “dead.”

The KISS bassist/vocalist doubled down on his previous remarks during an interview with Gulf News ahead of the band’s New Year’s Eve concert in Dubai.

“Rock is dead. And that’s because new bands haven’t taken the time to create glamour, excitement and epic stuff,” Simmons reasserted, six years after his similar comment broughy KISS under fire.

He recalled that during the 30 years between 1958 and 1988, “we had Elvis, The Beatles, Jimi Hendrix, Rolling Stones.”

“From 1988, until today, that’s more than 30 years. Tell me who the new Beatles is. You can’t,” he told Gulf News.

Nonetheless, Simmons offered praise for pop artists like Billie Eilish and Lady Gaga.

“I think Billie Eilish is fantastic. She’s interesting because she and her brother actually write the material and are unique to themselves,” Simmons said. “Lady Gaga is fantastic in the female category. She writes her own material, she can sing like nobody’s business.”

According to KISS frontman Paul Stanley, who also took part in the interview, the only music that consistently sells out concerts on a large scale is rock and roll.

“So as far as rock and roll being dead, I would bet the farm, so to speak, that Led Zeppelin will outlast anything that has the number one record today,” he added.
