Star of Discovery Channel’s Moonshiners Lance Waldroup has died, with his family confirming the sad news to American outlet TMZ on Thursday. He reportedly passed away on 25 February, at his home in North Carolina. His father Jeff, who also appeared on the network’s hit reality series, did not disclose his cause of death at this time.

Wanting to begin a a memorial fund for the 30-year-old, his family has since launched a GoFundMe for fans to donate in his honour.

“An adventurous distiller who was featured alongside his father throughout the early seasons of Moonshiners, Lance was always looking to take his flavorful recipes of ‘shine to new heights.

“He will be sorely missed.”

It concluded: “Our thoughts and prayers are with his family at this difficult time.”

Waldroup appeared on Moonshiners in the earlier seasons of the series, which premiered back in 2011.

According to TMZ, the star was “one of the younger and less experienced moonshiners” of the cast and would “often turn to his dad for guidance”.

In addition to moonshine, he also distilled absinthe and scotch.

The publication also reported that Waldroup had dealt with “survivor’s guilt” over the tragic loss of his 11-year-old sister Lyndsey, and Lamar, his 20-year-old brother.

According to the GoFundMe page, his late siblings both suffered with cystic fibrosis.

Lamar sadly passed away one and a half years after undergoing a lung transplant.

The page also added that Waldroup “turned his life around” by going to rehab, after becoming an addict for several years as he struggled to deal with the loss of his siblings.
